In the Okuden (second degree of Reiki) we delve deeper into the teachings, heightening our sensitivity to energy and exploring the theoretical background of the practice.
Reiki can sometimes be described as combining elements of Japanese shamanic practice with spiritual alchemy. The Reiki practitioner communes with nature and the universe’s energies, engages a state of ‘flow’ and transmutes their consciousness from the turbulence of daily city life to a sacred, non-dual space.
The Reiki student will receive energetic empowerments to connect with and use three Reiki symbols. Additionally, we will discuss on an introductory level elements of Western Mysteries, Japanese Shinto practices and esoteric Buddhism in order to investigate the deeper meanings associated with the exercises. In each class, we will practice using the symbols in hands-on healing, meditation and by chanting their associated jumon or mantras. Our curriculum includes:
As the greatest value of Reiki is found in its diligent practice, in between classes the student will practice the techniques learned and compose a brief reflection of their experience. After receiving their “distance” healing symbol, each student will have a personal 1 hour distance session via telephone or Skype with the instructor.
As at the end of the program each student will be qualified, proficient and certified as an Usui Reiki Ryoho Okuden level practitioner, we will complete the course with an overview of professional Reiki practice; the essential do’s, don’ts and bewares.
At the end of the course each practitioner will receive a Certificate of Attunement, a short electronic manual and be invited to the online Reiki NYC community as well as benefit from continued support through Firefly Society’s regular Reiki shares.
